I used to think we could change the world

But the older that I get the more I disagree
With that younger, optimistic, 19 year old me
I used to think each vote was a voice
But now it gets lost in a sea of white noise
Yes I am cynical but it is justified
Cos all the talk about change was nothing but lies
Cos I've seen riots with fire
And I've seen riots with fights
And I've seen peaceful protests
and marches last through the night
I've seen petitions filled up
And still nothing change
You can't be surprised that
I'm disengaged
So I'm letting go of the things
The things that I once cared about
I guess I was young and oh, so naive
I've changed quite a lot about the things I believe
I just about care and still to see change
But I don't think it'll happen and my energy's drained
And I'm sick tired of being so sick and tired
So I focus on me, and ignore the outside
The ideals I had that have all gone away
And they rest with the youth who will give up one day
When they've seen riots with fire
And I've seen riots with fights
And I've seen peaceful protests
and marches last through the night
I've seen petitions filled up
And still nothing change
You can't be surprised that
I'm disengaged
So I'm letting go of the things
The things that I once cared about
What is there to do when politicians don't hear?
When they act for themselves and all of their peers
When the protest is pointless 'cos they turn a blind eye?
When the rich rule the roost and the poor cast aside?
Cos I've seen riots with fire
And I've seen riots with fights
And I've seen peaceful protests
and marches that last through the night
I've seen petitions fill up
And still nothing change
I can't be surprised that
I'm disengaged
So I'm giving up all the things
The things that I once cared about
